Media Day a Success!
Roanoke Rampage Fire and Police Football Team’s 2010 Media Day/Scrimmage was a HUGE Success!
The team started the day with individual and team pictures and then the team split into Offensive vs. Defensive Scrimmage. Offensive in maroon and Defensive in white. Today was our first test to prepare for our opening home game April 3, 2010 against Carolina Commanders! The Offense and Defense have some work to do but overall just walking on the field today in full uniform was a WIN! Today, one of players was injured with a dislocated elbow, he was transported by Salem Fire-EMS to CRMH but is now at home doing well!
Special thanks to Retired Lieutenant Mike Overacker, Roanoke Fire-EMS for his exceptional photography work. He captured our team at their best. Thanks Mike!

She will be at Saturday’s scrimmage so make sure your wife or significant other gets with her if they are interested in helping at the 4/3 game….if possible have them send an email to her at toddnmarci1@juno.com

Airline
All talks with the airlines have failed! Allegiant Air in 1 week has doubled their quote for airline tickets. Delta is more than that with connecting flights and getting into Orlando late at night, and limited seats per flight. After talking to some travel experts, I have found out that Allegiant is full of hidden cost and have had 170 complaints to the BBB in the last 3 months. At this point, I am not sure what to do. The league requires us to fly to one game in our probationary year. Does anyone have any ideas? I am at the end of the rope here!!!

Rampage Charity!
The Roanoke Rampage Fire and police Football team will be playing football for charity. This years charity will be Steps 4 Billy. We were able to have lunch with Billy’s Sister Alice Obenchain-Leeson today to work out the details. All proceeds made at the gate will be donated to this noble cause!!
William E. (Billy) Obenchain, Jr. was a devoted Christian, husband, father, “pops”, son, brother, firefighter, and committed friend to many. Also, he was a career firefighter, who retired from the Roanoke City Fire Department in Roanoke, VA in 2007, and he faithfully served the Town of Vinton, VA as councilman for 16+ years, having been vice mayor for several years. Every single day for 9 years, he endured a rare form of lymphoma – Cutaneous T-Cell Lymphoma (e.g., CTCL) – that has no known cure. After a long, determined fight against the disease, Billy left us for his Eternal Home in Heaven on December 23, 2009.
During his illness, he was under the watchful eye and stellar care of one of the premier specialists in this disease, Dr. Elise Olsen of Duke Medical Center and Dr. Stephen Rosenoff of Blue Ridge Cancer Center in Roanoke Virginia. Billy also traveled, at the request of Merck Pharmaceuticals, to help scientists, researchers and others involved in drug creation to understand the plight of the CTCL patient.
It was through the grace of Our God, and the wonderful work of his doctors that he lived and loved for 9 years.
Simply, Steps 4 Billy was created in August 2009 because CTCL is so rare, by comparison to the incidence of other forms of lymphoma. Few people know about the disease. Few know of the terrible toll the disease has on those affected. Few know what it’s like to watch someone suffer with this disease. Sure, there are pockets of people, all over the internet, all over the world, who know about the disease. But compared to other more common cancers, this disease is mostly unknown. As a result, this disease gets comparatively less research funding, and less coverage in the media.
The vision for Steps 4 Billy is that it will grow into a full blown, non-profit organization, with numerous annual activities dedicated to: 1) educating citizens and organizations in the Greater Roanoke Valley and Commonwealth of Virginia about CTCL, and
2) raising funds for CTCL research, treatment and patient care.
